Wireless Settings Overview
Upon the completion of this post, you’ll be able to setup wireless settings on your Linksys router in order to allow wireless connectivity between the wireless devices on your home network. Open the Basic Wireless Settings page in order to setup wireless settings. You’ll find this page by clicking on the Wireless tab. Using Basic Wireless Settings page set the Wireless network mode (you may the wireless standards of your wireless network), the Wireless Network Name (SSID) (allows you to set a name for the wireless network. The SSID is used to identify the wireless network and can be used as a secret key to protect you network from unwanted users), the Wireless Channel (invites you to select the channel of the wireless network), the Wireless SSID Broadcast (offers or not the ability to broadcast your SSID).
Wireless Settings Setup Process
- Launch your Internet browser program.
- In the Address filed, type the IP address 192.168.1.1, and then press Enter.
- Type admin for the admin username and password. This is the default setting for a lot of Linksys routers. On the other hand, in some Linksys router versions, you should leave the username field blank and enter admin in the password field.
- Click on the Wireless tab.
- In Wireless Network Mode, select Mixed if your wireless network needs to support both 802.11g and 802.11n wireless clients. You may also select either G-Only or N-Only if you need to enable one wireless standard on your network.
- Type the name you want to set for your wireless network. It is recommended to set a value other then the default which is linksys.
- Select the current wireless channel.
- Select Enable to broadcast your SSID or Disable if you need to disable the broadcasting of your wireless network’s SSID.
- Click on Save Settings.
